Mac attended Hogan High School and initially embarked on his rap career as MC Dre, later adopting the stage name Mac Dre. Despite facing challenges, in 1989 he released his first EP, followed by two more releases until 1992, when legal issues arose, leading to a five-year prison sentence for conspiracy to commit robbery. During his incarceration, he continued to demonstrate his talents, obtaining a G.E.D. and even recording an album over the phone, addressing law enforcement. Additionally, he mentored rapper X-Raided in rhyming skills during this period.

While in prison, the album “Mac Dre Presents: The Rompalation” was released in 1996. Following his release in 1997, he resumed his music career, releasing further albums such as “Stupid Doo Doo Dumb” and “Rapper Gone Bad”. He relocated to Sacramento to distance himself from his past and founded Thizz Entertainment, promoting a more celebratory lifestyle reflective of his time in prison. He also became an advocate for steering individuals away from street life, collaborating with renowned artists in the music industry, including Andre Nickatina, Jay Tee, and Mac Mall.

In his personal life, Mac Dre encountered disputes within the industry. Tragically, in 2004, he was involved in a fatal shooting as a result of a payment dispute with a club promoter while traveling early in the morning. The assailants shot at the van in which Dre was a passenger, resulting in a fatal injury. His murder remains unsolved, and he was interred at the Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland.
