Kawhi Leonard, born on June 29, 1991, in Los Angeles, California, U.S., began his career in college. He earned Mountain West Conference Player of the Year honours in 2010 and 2011 while playing for San Diego State University. During his sophomore season, he led the team to a 34-3 record and a berth in the NCAA Sweet 16.

In the 2011 NBA Draft, Leonard was selected by the Indiana Pacers as the 15th overall pick. However, he was immediately traded to the San Antonio Spurs, where he spent the first seven seasons of his career.
